A vital part of the heart of Shepherd’s Cove Hospice is our amazing volunteer team!  We are honored to have so many people volunteer their time and talents to bless our patients, staff, and community.  If you would like to be a part of this incredible team, please complete the simple form below.  You will be contacted within two weeks of submitting your application and presented with next steps at that time.

Events

Race to Remember volunteers have multiple opportunities, including assembling packets, early packet pick-up events, race set- up/clean-up, registration, traffic control, cheerleading, manning water stations, etc.

Lights of Love volunteers assist staff with set-up, baking cookies, serving hot chocolate, parking, and greeting.

Hopeful Hearts volunteers help decorate, set-up/clean-up, and serve the meal. Assist with in-office event preparations and veteran-related events.

Grief Support

After the loss of a loved one, it is important to know that someone cares and has not forgotten about you or the significance of the one you lost. Our grief support volunteers maintain regular contact with families for a period of 13 months after a loss by phone calls, cards and notes on special remembrance days.

Thrift Shoppe

Our Thrift Shoppe was created to generate an additional revenue source to fund our mission. The Shoppe is staffed by volunteers who want to help others. Their hard work pays off as they help ensure that every patient gets the care they need regardless of their ability to pay. We hope you will consider how you can be a part of this important ministry and outreach.

Thrift Shoppe volunteers sort and price merchandise, organize and display items, greet customers, pick up donations in the community and advocate for Shepherd’s Cove Hospice. Individuals interested in volunteering for the Thrift Shoppe should contact the Shoppe Team Leader at 256-582-DEAL (3325) to schedule a time to complete an application.

As a volunteer you will be asked to:

  • Attend volunteer orientation and training sessions required for your role
  • Be reliable and prompt when performing assignments
  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Comply with the policies and procedures of the organization

In return, you will receive:

Spiritual Care

Our volunteer chaplains work to help patients and families cope with spiritual questions and concerns, either directly or by coordinating services with their personal spiritual counselors. Chaplains spiritual support to patients and families through prayer, guidance, scripture reading, religious rituals, and discussing spiritual matters. 

 

*Basic, direct patient care, and specialty training required.

Direct Patient Care

You can make a difference in the lives of our patients and families by volunteering to help care for patients in their home or at our inpatient unit.

 

Direct patient care can include:

  • making special deliveries to patients,
  • sitting with a patient to provide companionship or respite for the caregiver,
  • transporting patients/caregivers to appointments or errands,
  • helping patients and families create memories with pictures and photo albums,
  • providing music,
  • providing haircuts,
  • assisting with basic lawn care,
  • reading with patients, and more.

Craft Club

This group of caring individuals meets regularly to create unique, tangible items that display love and care for our patients and families as they walk their end-of-life journey. If you are interested in participating in the craft club, contact club leader Loretta Rodger at 256- 572-3830 any time Monday through Saturday, 10 am – 9 pm.
